We are grateful to live and work in one of the most beautiful regions of Austria. Clear mountain air, impressive natural landscapes, clean bathing lakes, and four seasons full of variety make Wagrain a very special place. Travelling often reminds us just how precious unspoilt nature is
Therefore, we are particularly concerned with a conscious use of energy and resources. Through many small and large measures, we try to reduce our ecological footprint – without you having to give up comfort.

Sustainable electricity generation
Since summer 2022, we have been generating a large part of our electricity needs ourselves with our modern photovoltaic system with 36 kWp. This enables us to sustainably and environmentally cover about half of the annual energy consumption of the Appartements Schattauer. The surplus energy is used for hot water preparation, supplied to our E-charging stations, or fed into the public electricity grid.
With the Power of the Sun
In addition to our photovoltaic system, we also use solar thermal energy. The solar energy supports us in the preparation of hot water and in heating our outdoor pool. The circulation pumps of the pool are also powered by electricity, which is largely generated directly at the house.
Climate-friendly heat from the region
Sustainability also means regional energy supply for us. That is why the Appartements Schattauer are connected to the local heating plant Wagrain. The heat generation takes place through biomass from the region – primarily from wood remnants and by-products of forest management. This way, valuable fossil resources can be saved and regional cycles strengthened. In this way, we make an active contribution to a sustainable future.
Cleaning & recycling
A careful handling of resources is important to us. Therefore, we pay attention to careful waste separation and strive to avoid waste as much as possible. We also warmly invite our guests to support us in this and to contribute to environmental protection together.
When cleaning our apartments, we rely on environmentally friendly solutions - from biodegradable cleaning agents to the use of modern steam cleaners, which enable hygienic cleaning with reduced chemical and water consumption.

Appreciating resources
Regional Roll ServiceRegionality starts for us right at our front door. We source our bread and pastries from the Steinbauer bakery in Wagrain. The short distances conserve resources, and at the same time, we support a traditional business directly here in Wagrain.
Tap WaterOur Wagrain drinking water comes from the surrounding mountains and can be enjoyed directly from the tap at any time. We forgo unnecessary bottled water and avoid packaging waste as well as long transport routes. A valuable regional good that we truly appreciate.
